The story behind the bins
10,000 Hz Records is a new and used record shop in downtown Opelika, Alabama. Its bins cover indie rock, jazz, soul, metal, electronic and more, alongside CDs, cassettes, turntables, speakers and audio accessories.
The shop began with pop-ups around Opelika and Auburn in early 2017. In July 2018, it settled into its downtown storefront, in space once used by the Montgomery Cotton Company.
Used records are restored, play-tested and graded using the Goldmine Standard. The shop also welcomes inquiries about selling records, CDs and tapes.
When the pandemic interrupted in-person browsing, the team expanded online sales. The doors reopened to foot traffic in April 2021. The name is a nod to Air’s album 10,000 Hz Legend.
